October is widely known as National Breast Cancer Awareness month; as Nashoba participates in its observance, we want to remind you of the support present in our community for those impacted.

According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at one point in their lives. Breast cancer, which is a disease defined by uncontrollable cell division, is responsible for destroying body tissue in the breasts and poses a threat to becoming malignant, or spreading, to other parts of the body.

Recovering from cancer is never an easy task, and the individuals facing with breast cancer can find support across the nation. The American Cancer Society informs us that as of 2016, there has been a 1-2% decrease in breast cancer mortality, which “has been attributed to both improvements in breast cancer treatment and early detection”. Regardless of this, more than 40,000 women across the US are laid to rest annually after giving their all in treatment. Survivors of breast cancer hold up hope for families and friends of those impacted by the disease by raising money and spreading awareness in search of a cure.

Nashoba participates in this movement to fight breast cancer by hosting “pink” themed sporting events and promoting the pink ribbon. Athletes will wear pink socks, arm bands, and even laces to show that they are carrying forth the hope that a cure for breast cancer will be found.

Join us in our mission to support the American Cancer Society and spread awareness on breast cancer this month of October. Pink games take place on the following dates:
