In the previous “Stay Informed” article regarding sexual misconduct allegations against Alabama Senate candidate, Roy Moore, it was reported that various women came forward claiming that Moore pursued sexual and romantic relationships with them. At the time, these women were teenagers and he was in his thirties. However, a new development has taken place that sheds more light onto this scandal.

A conservative group, Project Veritas, operated a mission to expose the Washington Post, the newspaper that first reported the Moore scandal, for believed bias against him, Donald Trump, and conservative candidates in general. Project Veritas is a “conservative media group” run by James O’Keefe.

O’Keefe has been conducting these types of operations since 2009, when he exposed a then-popular media outlet called ACORN for illegal activities. Since then, he has attempted to hit other perceived “liberal” newspapers and politicians, according to The Atlantic. However, in recent years, he has been called “ineffective” and “increasingly embarrassing” by conservative media leaders, also according to The Atlantic.

O’Keefe’s organization has been accumulating a lot of money, with O’Keefe himself bringing home $300,000 last year. He has been connected to Breitbart and Steve Bannon, both powerful forces in conservative circles. However, both Breitbart and a source close to Bannon have denied any involvement in this  operation.

In the attempt to expose the Washington Post, they sent a fake victim to testify to the Post and claim that Moore initiated a sexual relationship with her when she was 15, and then got her pregnant. After this, the false witness said that Moore forced her to have an abortion and drove her to the clinic to make sure that the procedure took place.

This woman’s name is Jaime Phillips, and she reached out to The Washington Post via email, saying “I may know something but I need to keep myself safe”. A Post reporter who had previously written a story on the scandal met with Phillips and listened to the false story. After the meeting, the Post began to do research on the details that Phillips gave and found that none of them matched up with the story she had given, except her name.

Instead, they found a GoFundMe page, under the name Jaime Phillips with a description that read: “I’ve accepted a job to work in the conservative media movement to combat the lies and deceit of the liberal MSM [Mainstream Media]. I’ll be using my skills as a researcher and fact-checker to help our movement”. The Post had a second interview with Phillips, where they asked her to provide details to corroborate her story, but she refused to provide any and threatened to take her story to another paper if the Post would not publish it as is.

Phillips was recording both interviews on a hidden camera, and during the interviews she repeatedly asked the reporters interviewing her if the information she was giving would make sure that Moore was not elected. She made several off-the-record comments that the Post made public after they realized they had been deceived.

When Phillips was spotted walking into the Project Veritas office in New York City by reporters for the Post, all of the dots connected and it was discovered that Phillips was an undercover conservative operative seeking to undermine the reporting done on the Roy Moore scandal by credible journalists. The Post has been the only news outlet publishing exclusive and relevant information on these events. Additionally, many other newspapers such as The New York Times and The Boston Globe have been reporting based on The Post’s detailed article on their experience with Project Veritas.

President Trump endorsed Roy Moore to fill the Alabama Senate slot. He said that he believes Roy Moore is innocent of the sexual misconduct allegations because “he denies it…He says it didn’t happen”. Several other GOP leaders who previously withdrew their support have stayed silent on the issue, even with these new developments.

With the Senate election on December 12, almost a week away, only time will tell if the allegations against Roy Moore will affect the results of the election. The Chieftain Press will keep you updated. It’s important to stay informed.
