Girls Basketball Starts Season with New Coach

This year the girls basketball team is determined to make it past the first round of playoffs, which they have been unable to accomplish in the past two seasons. With a different varsity coach and a new mindset, the girls are already on their way to a successful post-season run.

The captains of the team are seniors Maddy Richard and Sarah Gillooly who have been a part of Nashoba Basketball all four years of their high school career. Current juniors on the team are Brie Donahue, Julia Roth, and Holly Tremblay, who are all strong contributors to the team. The rest of the team consists of underclassmen including guards Abby McNulty, Caylie Mcmahon, Lexie Richard, Ali Gillooly, and Jillian Payne. The team is evenly spread out throughout the grades, with a wide distribution between grade and skill levels. Captains Maddy and Sarah said they can already see improvement from last season and really enjoy how the new coach is bringing the team together on and off the court.

The new varsity coach is Coach Seabury. She played sports at Ana Maria College in Paxton, MA, like soccer, basketball, and softball. After her collegiate athletic career ended she pursued coaching.

“She’s super positive and enthusiastic. We are so excited to see how our team succeeds and hope to achieve our goals by the end of the season,” says Sarah Gillooly.

The team clearly enjoys her enthusiasm and drive to create a playoff-winning team. Along with the players being enthusiastic and aiming high for the post-season, the girls are looking at a very successful year.

Maddy Richard offers her insight on the season, saying “I think the season will go great under her leadership and that our team goals from the beginning of the season will be met by the end.”

The girls are very excited to start their season. Come out on Friday to support the team in their home opening game against Westborough. The JV team plays at 4:30 followed by varsity at 6. Hope to see you there!
