Republicans and Democrats alike have called for a delay in the Kavanaugh vote after sexual assault allegations came out against the Supreme Court nominee.

The allegations come from Christine Blasey Ford, who claims that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the 1980s while they were in high school. She says that he pinned her to a bed, groped her, tried to take off her swimsuit, and cover her mouth to stop her from screaming, all while his friends watched.

Ford describes it as a rape attempt saying, “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”

Kavanaugh made a statement saying, “I have never done anything like what the accuser describes — to her or to anyone. Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday. I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity.”

Both Kavanaugh and Ford have said that they are willing to testify the event.

Many senators, including republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Jeff Flake of Arizona, have called for both parties to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee before the vote. But President Trump said that the FBI should not be involved investigating the allegations.

The confirmation vote was supposed to take place on September 17th, but the Senate has delayed the vote. However, the GOP is still planning on having the vote later this week.
