This year’s NEDA walk will take place on October 14th at UMASS Amherst. NEDA, or the National Eating Disorder Association, is an organization that funds research for eating disorder studies, hotlines, and provides medical recommendations, as well as inspirational blog posts to connect the community.

In a world with impossible beauty standards, fad diets, fat shaming, and a myriad of other self destructing lifestyles, the National Eating Disorder Association hosts walks across the country to raise awareness for millions diagnosed and undiagnosed with eating disorders. NEDA is trying to erase the stigma that talking about eating disorders and mental illness is a bad thing.

Junior Emma Gould and her team “Just Keep Swimming” will be walking to promote awareness for eating disorders by fundraising and educating others about the multiple types of eating disorders such as Binge Eating Disorder, Atypical Anorexia, and Bulimia Nervosa.

Twenty million women and ten million men are diagnosed with an eating disorder each year, and even more men and women have an undiagnosed eating disorder.
