On Saturday, Nashoba field hockey beat Algonquin 2-0 in the Central Mass Division 1 District final, earning them the District championship title they worked so hard for all season.

For the first half of the game, Nashoba dominated the field, but was unable to get their shots in the net. Algonquin had breakaways toward Nashoba’s goal, where senior goalie, Caylie McMahon, blocked every shot. Defenders Kayla Ballas, Allie Jones, and Elise DuTilio held together the backfield well, helping McMahon in the net.

The game was riddled with injuries. Freshman, Abigail Zacchini played with a cast for a broken knuckle, injured in a previous game. Erica Spalone was hit in the hand by Algonquin later in the game.

The second half began with a score of 0-0. With 14:51 left on the clock, sophomore Lela Boormester shot a goal in from the top of the circle. With 3:48 left, senior Amy Spratt tipped in a goal during a corner.

As the buzzer sounded, Nashoba rushed to get Caylie McMahon who fell to the turf as the team jumped on her. The girls were excited, especially the seniors who ended their last year with a District Championship. Nashoba held the trophy proudly, their hard work paying off.

Nashoba ended their regular season with a score of 17-1-0, and will continue their playoffs in the state semifinal game on Thursday, November 14 against Longmeadow in Shrewsbury. If they win, they will play in the State Championship game the second year in a row against the winner of the Andover- Somerset Berkely game.
