Every birthday for as long as I’ve remembered I’ve had to respond to the same question: “How does it feel to be 13?” or “Do you feel any different now that you’re 16?” And for the past 18 years, I’ve given the same answer: that “No, being 17 doesn’t feel any different from being 16.” However, now that I’m 18, I’ve been able to answer that question a little differently.

Being 18 comes with a lot of fun and a lot of responsibility, and many people aren’t completely sure with what this includes. In case you were wondering, here is an unofficial bucket list of things you can do now that you’re an adult:

  • Vote! Or at least register, you can now make an impact on your country and it is important to do so! If you register at least 20 days before the November election you will be able to vote for the next president of our country
  • Open a checking account (without your parent’s permission)
  • Drive all hours of the night, and drive with whoever you want (as long as they have a license)
  • Get a tattoo/piercing
  • Enlist in the military
  • File a lawsuit and be sued (time to start being careful…)
  • Get married and divorced (although not recommended without some serious thinking)
  • Buy spray paint
  • Be on Jerry Springer
  • Go on a cruise
  • Get a hotel room
  • Buy a lottery ticket
  • Get a Costco membership
  • Go to jail (again, be careful)
  • Donate blood
  • Write a check
  • Enter a contest

While these obviously aren’t all of the things you can do as an adult, it’s a good start. So Seniors: ready, set, go!
