There was considerable controversy surrounding the retirement of Michael Flynn as National Security Adviser to President Trump on Monday, February 13th, after only three weeks in the position.

The Justice Department previously voiced concerns, but his resignation only happened once it became publicly known that he misled Vice President Pence regarding the conversation Flynn had with the Russians. While it is not uncommon for public officials and businessmen to have contact with foreign intelligence agents, the wire tapped conversations from last year between Flynn and the Russian Ambassador, along with the false information to Pence lead to his resignation.

President Trump stated on Wednesday that “General Flynn is a wonderful man. I think he has been treated very, very unfairly by the media”. The President has appeared to stand with Flynn throughout the investigation, and maintains that his team had no illegal dealings with the Russians.

Flynn has denied any improper contact with the Russians throughout the investigation. Many intelligence officials still plan to investigate further into the contact between Trump’s team and the Russians.
